You know I'm from the most uncultured part of America when I haven't heard of music pioneer Neko Case until picking up a Nylon magazine. She is now my latest obsession. A redhead who is a phenomenal lyric writer and is one of the few cool people out there to come from country roots....this is the greatest thing to happen to music. The concept of the album is very nature oriented and makes me think of warm summer evenings. Case in point: the last track, "Marais La Nuit," is 32 minutes of chirping crickets. For some reason I find this track addicting, possibly just because of the unusualness of it. My other favorites currently are "Prison Girls," "The Pharaohs," and "I'm an Animal."
You could say it's my instinct
yes, i still have one
there's no time to second guess it
yes, there are things that i'm still so afraid of
but my courage is roaring like the sound of the sun
cause it's there to bod its mane
and will reveal them and no one
Now i'm an animal
you're an animal, too
Pick up that rock
i do my best but i made a mistake
yes, there are things i'm still quite sure of
i love you this hour
this hour today
and heaven will smell like the airport
but i may never get that or prove it
so let's not waste our time thinking how that ain't fair
