Bad Blood

Although I have recently professed myself to be (somewhat of) a Twilight fan, I must say that this series as a movie is the biggest train wreck to happen in all of cinema.

Here are the many rumors revolving New Moon:
  • Dakota Fanning has been cast a lead role. In a vampire movie. *stifles laughter.*
  • Drew Barrymore is rumored to be directing. That's cool, but um, does she even direct? How is she qualified?
  • Demi Lovato says she would like to sing a song on the soundtrack. Why do Disney stars think they can do whatever the hell they want? I am actually a fan of Demi, but I can't imagine that the hopeless romantic emo fangirls of the world feel the same way.
  • Madonna may be cast?
  • Paris Hilton wants in on the action???
Get it together, Twilight. Half of the aforementioned things are cool, the other half or totally berserk, but NONE of them appeal to the same audience whatsoever. I look forward to this hot mess you're cooking up.

I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes.

You know I'm from the most uncultured part of America when I haven't heard of music pioneer Neko Case until picking up a Nylon magazine. She is now my latest obsession. A redhead who is a phenomenal lyric writer and is one of the few cool people out there to come from country roots....this is the greatest thing to happen to music. The concept of the album is very nature oriented and makes me think of warm summer evenings. Case in point: the last track, "Marais La Nuit," is 32 minutes of chirping crickets. For some reason I find this track addicting, possibly just because of the unusualness of it. My other favorites currently are "Prison Girls," "The Pharaohs," and "I'm an Animal."

You could say it's my instinct
yes, i still have one
there's no time to second guess it
yes, there are things that i'm still so afraid of
but my courage is roaring like the sound of the sun
cause it's there to bod its mane
and will reveal them and no one
Now i'm an animal
you're an animal, too
Pick up that rock
i do my best but i made a mistake
yes, there are things i'm still quite sure of
i love you this hour
this hour today
and heaven will smell like the airport
but i may never get that or prove it
so let's not waste our time thinking how that ain't fair

I have officially 'sold out.'

I have lost all traces of individuality. I am no longer special. I have carved out my soul, my brain, any essential part of me and thrown it away. Yesterday, I saw the Twilight movie...and liked it.

For the past year I have seen ALL my friends fall slowly under the Twilight spell. Every couple of weeks I would walk into class and find yet another of them lost in the book with the unholy little red apple on the cover. "NO! Not you too!" I would say.

But they all claimed it was an amazing story despite it being about a girl who falls in love with a vampire, and that they were in love with Edward Cullen, despite him being a fictional character. They were sure I'd love it if I gave it a chance. Hah.

But when the movie came out...I got curious. Sure, why not. Seeing the movie will not suddenly brainwash me into an Edward loving drone. But I was wrong.

I mean, look at him:
He is pretty much flawless. Finally someone is making pale cool again!
Those glasses + that hair = love. Like a young James Dean.

I found the movie itself to be really good as well, probably because I hadn't read the books first. The whole being a vampire tragedy saved this from being another sappy teen love story. It also took place in this beautiful, rainy setting that gave it a really mysterious & magical feel. And some parts were seriously intense. For me, anyway. Like near the end when there was lots of blood (something I can't handle well). It was really good as far as movies go.

That was probably the shittiest review of all time, but since I barely know the story, I couldn't really do it justice. I never thought it would come to this, but I now plan on reading the books. Sadly, they are checked out at every library in the area. Curse you, Twilight fans. You have converted me.

Thank you for the sun, the one that shines on everyone who feels love.

Happy Thanksgiving from the laziest blogger ever. It's been far too long.

I got my Nylon magazine the other day and like usual it has led me to some great musical discoveries.

Such as this girl:

You've got to love someone who dresses like that. Ebony Bones of the UK is the first artist in my iTunes library whose genre I have classified as "other." I suppose her music could be described as something along the lines of tropical-influenced dance-hall/electronica. She says in Nylon that she "loves meshing style and music" and hopes to "redefine feminity in music." Proof of her eccentricity lies in the fact that she has a song called "Don't Fart on My Heart." This girl was probably quite the freak in high school, and I have a feeling we would be great friends.

I'm also trying to decide what I think of this girl:
Peaches Geldof is a socialite from England who is supposedly famous despite my never having heard of her. On paper this girl sounded like a dream; a political-minded student of English literature at NYU who has made documentaries and at the tender age of 19 has 11+ tattoos and is married. She sounded incredibly mature & ambitious until I saw a couple videos of her broadcasting skills on youtube and suddenly found her to be extremely bland. Her voice has this lazy tone about it so that even when she's talking about politics she sounds stupid & bored. Even though one of her documentaries is about the Muslim lifestyle & trying to prove that it is nothing to fear, I found a quote of her saying "the Iraqi war was necessary." Political my ass. I'm not sure where this girl stands...

I'm going to choose to ignore all that however and judge her on the above picture. Blue hair. Hippie clothes. Big eyelashes. And I do love her tattoos. There's lyrics on her lower back, a book (I think) and the words "Ex-Valentine" on her forearm, among many others. They seem to be tasteful and meaningful, unlike that of most celebs. Yeah, Peaches is alright with me. She's a definite style icon if nothing else.

Oh, and this is album is a tad bit incredible:

I've been a Kanye fan for awhile, but he's definitely hit the peak of his creativity with this whole electronic thing. Of course he's been called a "sell-out," but I've been known to follow artists for long after they sell out. That's when things get good. Favorite tracks are "Heartless," "Amazing," "RoboCop," and "See You In My Nightmares." Download them. & Happy Thanksgiving.

Debate Follow-up

I am really knew to this whole politics thing. I was (and am still, I guess) raised in one of the most h-core conservative families known to man. My whole life, I was only taught one side of things and that that side was the "right" one and that all democrats go to hell. But like usual, I have grown to disagree with the rest of my family. I think I must be adopted. It's mindblowing to think God actually placed me into this family. I don't really mind, though. I love being a contradiction.

I don't really consider myself a democrat nor republican. I think if you whole-heartedly agree with either side, you are ignoring something. Maybe next election I'll vote republican? But right now we need change. It'd be better to make a different mistake than the same one all over again.

As for the debate, I found it to be very interesting at first. After about a half hour I had reached my limit, but I left it on 'til the end and tried to follow. They mostly covered topics such as the current economoic crisis, foreign oil, and the war. Both of them stuck to their guns (shit, is that a republican term?) on the issues, but McCain seemed to contradict himself numerous times, sometimes agreeing with Bush's policies and sometimes not. I thought it was incredibly rude how he kept snickering when Obama was speaking and often saying "Senator Obama still does not understand...". Obama is also a much more charismatic speaker, which goes far with me. And whenever McCain was speaking, he looked like he wanted to punch him in the face. I loved it. Once again, I don't feel like going over the details. I suck at that. If you want to watch the videos, here they are: http://www.youtube.com/user/yd2008.

OK, I promise I'm not going talk about politics again for quite some time. This was not intended to be a political blog, it's supposed to be a "life" blog. To me that mean music, movies, TV, fashion, celebrities, art, but also important social issues. It will also include a lot of rants and lots of bitching. Look forward to it.

Politics are chic right now

Proof that I'm not your typical teenager: it's Friday night and I'm going to watch the presidential debate!

While I am an avid Obama supporter, I admit, I don't really know my shit. All I know is that this is the year 2008 and it is certainly not the time to be electing our oldest president yet. Let's try and be a little progressive here people! Obama promises change, and we could certainly use that after the past 8 years.

I first saw an interview with Barack Obama on the Tyra Banks Show many months ago. They talked about the music he's into, his first date with his wife, and other topics that are of interest to REAL people. He even played basketball with Tyra, and was really good! I don't remember everything, as this must have been almost a year ago, but I just remember thinking, how rad is it that this guy could be our next president?

Politically, his campaign seems the most honest and in the best interest of the American people. He is a big supporter of the environment & energy efficiency (as am I), reformed health care, and creating a more equal/balanced economy. I don't feel like going into great detail about any of these issues, but that doesn't mean I'm not informed. If you want to know more, http://www.barackobama.com goes into great detail. I feel he has some really great plans. It's like the only reason people wouldn't support him is because they believe he's too good to be true.

I was a McCain supporter for about a minute and a half when he chose Sarah Palin as his vice. I heard this on E! News, I believe, where they showed a short clip of her and mentioned she was a former beauty queen. That clip did not mention, however, her extreme lack of experience. Ironic, considering experience was the one thing McCain had over Obama. This, among other things, prove his hypocrasy. Old people. Sheesh.

I feel the need to mention that I do like Sarah Palin as a person. I just don't feel she is equipped to be president. If any woman is even able to run for president, she has my support a little bit. But I hope that when we finally do have a woman president, she can be someone that most people can respect. Like me. ;]

And if there aren't enough reasons to vote for Obama already, he definitely has the best t-shirts:

All shirts are from http://cafepress.com and http://store.barackobama.com.

I totally want one ASAP so I can piss off everyone at my small Christian, conservative school. Oh, how I love being a nonconformist.
